Swift: Apple’s new programming language: Challenge Accepted!

Posted by admin at June 3, 2014

I am trying to get into proper app development with native programming languages Objective C, Java etc. I have done some mobile projects here and there but nothing really hardcore mainly because of work engagements. But of late, I have been getting a little free time to play around with my ‘old toys’ and a flood of app ideas has since then, opened up. Some of these ideas I have started working on, some of them are still in the Inertia list.  programming languages, I need to brush up on and one of them is the Objective C, Apple’s choice for a mobile programming language. I am starting toget the hang of it and then I tune into

Apple’s WWDC for 2014, and bam! They announce a new programming language for Apple devices!

“Thanks Apple, like the Objective C was not enough”, I thought as I stared at the ceiling “… yet another language I’ll have to learn”. But when I looked through the specifications of the new programming language, Swift, my thoughts began to change quickly. The first and most exciting feature of the language is its more accessible interface when compared to the Objective C. The Objective C is not a very easy language to master, the syntax for Swift will provide for easier learning curve, getting more potential developers on their feet, faster. Another key feature that excited me was “speed”. Apple stated that the Swift code will be faster than Objective C and Python. Python, people, that is something. Also Swift code can work side by side with legacy code in Objective C and there is nothing I like more backward compatibility, especially when I am learning, partially off the grid.

Apple is yet to publish Swift’s documentation.
